"The Yuma Symposium is comfort food for hungry artists." I presented a lecture Urban Image Metalsmithing: coded and coated graphics, that covered the inspiration that I draw from the graffiti and marketing graphics coated, LA landscape. I will related my visual works to a lineage of metalsmiths working in the graphic narrative. I also reveal some of my powder coating techniques during a demonstration of the process.

East Carolina University rocks out the best East Coast symposium for Jewelry and Metals!tag:michaeldalebernard.ning.com,2011-08-08:5129544:BlogPost:9032011-08-08T15:30:00.000ZMichael Dale Bernardhttp://michaeldalebernard.ning.com/profile/MichaelDaleBernard

January 15-16, 2011, Greenville, NC

I was thoroughly honored to be a presenter at this unrivaled, student-organized symposium along with Ken Bova, Dan DiCaprio, Caroline Gore, Mi-Sook Hur, Nicole Jacquard, Lisa Johnson, and Tom Muir.

This was only the 2nd annual incarnation of the ECU Metals Symposium and I was blown away by the professionalism, academic relevancy, and overwhelming sense of community that permeated every aspect of this gathering!

I was asked to give an artist lecture on my work and also to lead 2 demonstration periods on Powder Coating techniques and how the process can be incorporated into a metals practice.

Liz Steiner (an incredible metalsmith and blogger of Atomic Rabbit) covers the symposium's events in great detail on Crafthaus.
